Mission

San Juan County Adult Detention Center is responsible for the operation of the county jail and its supporting functions. We are entrusted by the County Commissioners, CEO and citizens of San Juan County to provide safe, secure and humane housing to all persons remanded to our custody.

The County Detention facility provides housing for pretrial detainees and sentenced inmates in modern dormitories and secure cell configuration. We incorporate Objective Inmate Classification which determines the offender’s risk level. Once assessed, they are placed in appropriate housing units. Facility inmates are observed through our “Directional Supervision Methodology”. In short, supervision is enhanced through technology based surveillance which allows greater flexibility for direct, indirect, and roving foot patrols. Combined utilization of these methods, provides effective management while maintaining operational compliance.

San Juan County detention has a proud history of collaborative support from with our judicial courts and all law enforcement agencies. We understand the importance of faith based programs and currently have over 130 volunteers’ from a verity of domination. This initiative provides spiritual support with practical "life skills" examples.
