The Rural addressing Department assigns addresses primarily for Emergency Services. Once an address is assigned, the department post the address in the field, GPS’s the location and adds the new structure to emergency responder maps. This provides a clear direction for Emergency Services Personnel in quickly locating fire, medical and law enforcement emergencies. The Addressing Department issues all road names, and builds and maintains the Street Address Guide for the unincorporated areas of San Juan County. Addressing is also responsible for creating and maintaining major GIS layers for County mapping.
