Juvenile Detention Work Program |
|
The San Juan County Juvenile Detention Work Program (JDWP) began in June, 2000 and
is a community service program that provides local judiciary an alternative to incarceration.
As an alternative to incarceration, each juvenile is provided an opportunity to
earn self-respect through the accomplishments of valuable work. This program is
intended to demonstrate that delinquent juveniles are a positive source for community
improvement and attempts to transform delinquent juvenile offenders into a source
of solutions.
|
|
One weekend a month, juveniles who are court ordered to attend the Work Program
report to the facility for a full weekend of structured community work. The work
sites are arranged through the program facilitator, with juvenile detention staff
and drug court staff providing supervision.
|
|
This program is intended to teach the juveniles discipline, accountability, responsibility
and how to build a good work ethic. By working in the public as a group, members
of the community are able to see the positive side of youth in San Juan County.
