Eight Divisions
Administration is responsible for preparing the Department's budgets, establishing goals and standards and documenting all activities of the Department
Road Construction has the primary responsibility for road construction/reconstruction, large drainage projects and heavy maintenance projects.
Road Maintenance has the responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance needs of the road system such as pot hole repair, culvert repair, cleaning of cattle guards and road grading.
Community Resources utilizes trustee labor provided by the Detention Center and community service workers provided by area courts to perform roadside litter pickup, roadside vegetation removal and other community service projects.
Road Shop provides repairs to and preventive maintenance for County vehicles and other types of powered equipment.
Vector Control provides services to the community in adulticiding (spraying for mosquitoes), larviciding (the control of mosquito larva in ponds, ditches and standing water by minnows call gambousia), prairie dog eradication, sweeping and mowing along County Roads and weed control. Vector Control also is responsible for insect control throughout all County Buildings, including fire stations (a total of 65 buildings).
Solid Waste is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 11 transfer stations. This division is responsible for hauling trash from these sites seven days a week.
Traffic has the responsibility for maintenance of traffic control devices and work zone traffic control for construction and maintenance projects.

Vehicles maintained - 346 light vehicles, 149 highway trucks, 91 pieces of heavy equipment.
In 2004, 1339 trustees worked an average of 8 hours per day equating to a value of $143,438.
In 2004, 3300 minor offenders referred by area courts were given community service assignments and monitored with a 58% completion rate.
Solid Waste Highlights
San Juan County Regional Landfill is situated on 160 acres leased from the Bureau of Land Management.
The landfill has a 50-year life span.
San Juan County has a lifetime contract with Waste Management to operate the landfill.
San Juan County pays Waste Management on a per cubic yard basis for disposed waste.
San Juan County operates 11 transfer/Solid Waste Dump Stations.
Over 320,000 vehicles go through the transfer stations annually.
