Mission

The mission of Public Works is to provide the following services in the most cost effective and pro-active manner possible:

* Maintain San Juan County’s 743.11 miles of roadway and 22 bridges at a level which ensures San Juan County motorists safe and reliable roads;

* Maintain San Juan County’s 346 light vehicles, 149 highway trucks and 91 pieces of heavy equipment;

* Provide a reasonable level of vector control to contain the spread of vector-related disease; and

* Operate San Juan County’s 11 solid waste transfer stations in an environmentally acceptable and user-friendly manner.

Vision

Our vision for the future is to refocus on the basics, curtailing Public Works’ direct involvement in special and large multimillion dollar projects; establish a level of light and heavy road maintenance/construction, vector control and solid waste services that are necessary, affordable and sustainable.

This will ensure that Public Works does not overextend itself while freeing up resources that can be used to improve all County maintained roads, thus responding more effectively to the needs and requests of San Juan County residents
