The Sheriff’s Office participates in the Region II Narcotics Task Force along with
members of the Farmington Police Department and NM State Police and assorted federal
agencies. We have three full-time personnel assigned to Region II.

The Sheriff’s Office currently
has two helicopters and contracted pilots at its disposal. Use of the helicopters
is offered to all public safety agencies. The helicopters are invaluable in locating
missing or wanted subjects and property.

The Sheriff’s Office has a
well trained “Special Response Team” (SRT) for use in high-risk missions such as
barricaded subjects, hostage situations, and fugitive apprehensions.

We are currently involved in becoming
nationally accredited – a feat no other sheriff’s office in New Mexico has ever
accomplished. The projected date for reaching accreditation is June 2009.

The Sheriff’s Office has designed a web site (www.sjcso.com) in an effort to better
inform the public as to what our mission and goals are. This professionally designed

The Sheriff’s Office has a
Traffic Division within the Patrol Division. When staffed, a sergeant, three full-time
deputies, and a part-time deputy concentrate their efforts on the traffic concerns
of the public, DWI enforcement, and accident mitigation and investigation.
