Term of Office:
4 years (can hold two consecutive 4 year terms)
Collector of all County Revenues:
Receives and receipts for all revenue received from other County Departments.
Receive and receipt for all revenue received for all property tax assessed in San Juan County on central assessed, personal, and real property.
Receive and receipts for all revenue received from the State of New Mexico for Oil and Gas Production, Gross Receipts Tax, Recreation Tax, and Cigarette Tax.
Supervises the deposit, safekeeping, and investment of all County funds.
Distributes on a monthly basis the property tax payments collected on behalf of State of New Mexico, City of Aztec, City of Bloomfield, City of Farmington, Local School Districts, San Juan College, and Water Irrigation Districts.
Distributes on a monthly basis the revenue received for Oil and Gas Production to appropriate entities.
Prepares a monthly Financial Statement that covers fiscal year information and includes:
Beginning and ending cash fund balances listing disbursements, accruals, transfers, and receipts to date.
Detail listing of receipts.
Beginning and ending taxes receivable for current and prior years.
Schedule of uncollected taxes – 10 year schedule.
Summary of Investments.
Tax distribution information by fund and section.
Bonded debt information.
Bank reconciliation information
Prepares and mails county tax bills by November 1 each year for that calendar year.
Payment for tax bills in the amount of ten dollars ($10.00) and over are payable in two equal installments. The first half is due November 10 and is delinquent if not paid by 5:00 pm on December 10. The second half is due April 10 and is delinquent if not paid by 5:00 pm on May 10. If taxes become delinquent interest and penalty shall accrue on the unpaid tax at the rate of 1% per month or any fraction of a month each, up to 5 months for penalty.
Payment for tax bills in the amount of ten dollars ($10.00) or less are payable in one installment. The total payment is due November 10 and is delinquent if not paid by 5:00 pm on December 10.
