Juvenile Assessment Program

The non-secure area of the Juvenile Services Center serves youths from ages 9 to 18. At the time of referral, an Intake Specialist will conduct a comprehensive needs/risk assessment to help identify areas of concern and then staff will consult with families to develop a plan of action for services or programs available through community organizations. Such agencies/programs are: anger management, education, employment, mental health, substance abuse, sex and dating, crisis, recreation, family services, parenting and more.

Youth and families can utilize the services of the Assessment Center. Referrals are taken by the following: Self-referrals, Informal Juvenile Probation referrals, Court referrals, Youth who have concerning behavior at home, Truants/suspended/expelled students or those students not committing to school, Parent/Families needing services as a result of child conflict, In-State Runaways to be transferred to the Crisis Shelter, Youths who do not meet secure detention criteria (at the recommendation of the on-call JPO), Youth identified by law enforcement as having concerning/at-risk behavior.

Parent notification must be completed at the time of a referral and prior to a drop off to the Assessment Center.

Assessments are done between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Appointments and walk-ins are welcome. In case of an emergency staff are on-call 24-hours a day, seven days a week. One or both parents/guardians MUST accompany the youth to the appointment.
It is important to keep in mind that when an adolescent is receiving services at the Assessment Center, this does not mean they are delinquents or have committed a crime. There are many services we provide for families and youth in need, and the most detrimental thing we can do is label them while they are trying to work on areas of improvement.
