Officer-Involved Shooting in San Juan County Results in Two Fatalities

San Juan County, NM  - On the afternoon of May 7, 2025, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office detectives were assisting the U.S. Marshals Service in locating a wanted individual. The subject had been spotted by community members at multiple locations throughout the day.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., deputies and U.S. Marshals attempted to take the individual into custody at a residence near 4004 Copper Avenue. According to initial witness statements, the male subject was in the passenger seat of a vehicle being driven by a female. Witnesses reported that the vehicle moved toward law enforcement officers while the male subject attempted to climb into the driver’s seat.

Shots were fired by U.S. Marshals during the incident. Both the male subject and the female driver were pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement personnel were injured.

At the request of the U.S. Marshals Service, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office has assumed responsibility for the officer-involved shooting investigation. Detectives not involved in the incident are leading the investigation to ensure impartiality and transparency.

We do not take the loss of life lightly and we are committed to a full, fair, and transparent review of what occurred. We offer our condolences to the families affected. Further details will be released as they become available.

The wanted subject was identified as Brandon Roe, DOB 10/26/1987. The female driving the vehicle was identified as Breanna Wilkerson, DOB 06/10/1999.

 Brandon Roe had warrants for the following charges:

  • Warrant – Failure to Appear
    • Charge: Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer – 4th Degree Felony
  • Warrant – Failure to Appear
    • Charge: Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer – 4th Degree Felony
  • Warrant – Failure to Comply
    • Charge: Burglary (Commercial) – 4th Degree Felony

UPDATE: A dog was in the vehicle with the subjects at the time of the shooting and was unfortunately shot. The dog was later euthanized due to its injuries.
