Officials Plan Annual Full-Scale Drill
Aztec, NM—On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management will conduct the 2025 San Juan County Full-Scale Drill.
The drill will take place at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center, 871 Andrea Drive. Police and fire department activity will begin around 7:00 am and conclude at noon.
This is a continuation of the full-scale drill series that SJCOEM has been coordinating for first responders on an annual basis.
At the same time, San Juan Regional Medical Center will be holding a simulated mass medical surge event at the hospital, 801 W Maple in Farmington, centered on the emergency entrance of the Emergency Department at Maple and Lake.
The SJRMC Emergency Department will remain open throughout the drill.
The lobby of the SJCADC will be closed until noon on September 17, but regular operations of the detention center will continue.
The SJCADC will host first responders from Farmington Police, Farmington Fire, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, San Juan County Fire & Rescue, San Juan County Communications Authority, and San Juan Regional Medical Center Emergency Medical Services. The local Red Cross, New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and Northwest New Mexico EmComm Group will support the drill.
The public can expect large concentrations of first responders in these two locations and simulated large-scale events. There will be additional simulated radio transmissions on public safety frequencies.
San Juan County’s annual drill is a valuable training mechanism for all first responders and those who may be involved in a large-scale emergency, as well as exercising skills of specialty teams like SWAT and bomb squad. This experience is another way San Juan County’s first responders maintain a high level of service for the citizens through ongoing partnerships between first response and support agencies.
There should be no impact on the public during the drill.
