San Juan County Finance Department Honored for Consistent Positive Performance
Independent auditor reports ‘no findings’ for the fifth year in a row
AZTEC, NM—In January, San Juan County Commissioners voted to accept a clean audit report with no findings for the 2025 fiscal year. An independent auditor has certified that the financials are free of errors and meet all required reporting standards.
By state statute, local governments are required to contract an independent auditor to review and audit the prior fiscal year’s financial activity. San Juan County contracted with Pattillo, Brown, and Hill, LLP.
“No findings” means that San Juan County’s policy and procedures stand up to test and the public can be assured that good policy governs all transactions of taxpayer money. This is the fifth year that San Juan County’s Audit has had ‘no findings.’
The San Juan County Finance Department has also been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. This is the 19th consecutive year the County has received the award. Fiscal Year 2025 has been submitted for review.
Additionally, GFOA has, for the 18th time, awarded San Juan County Distinguished Budget Presentation for the fiscal year 2026 Program Budget.
San Juan County has also prepared a Popular Annual Financial Report for the sixth year in a row and has received an award for each year’s publications.
The combination of the three awards also means that San Juan County has been recognized as a Triple-Crown Award winner, six years in a row.
Among all the accolades, San Juan County is also the recipient of the Audit and Accountability award from the New Mexico State Auditor’s Office and New Mexico Counties for nine years in a row.
The awards are not only a testament to the diligent work by County employees to keep accurate and true accounting of finances, but a commitment by the organization as a whole to be accountable to the taxpayers in spending.
All the award-winning financial documents are available online at SJCounty.net, under Finance Department.
