Here is a reminder about the regulations governing fireworks this Independence Day season:
In unincorporated parts of San Juan County:
Due to a statewide fire ban, the discharge of fireworks is prohibited on non-municipal, non-federal, and non-Tribal lands covered wholly or in part in timber, brush, grass, grain, or other flammable vegetation.
In the City of Bloomfield:
The sale and use of missile-type rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, stick-type rockets, and ground audible devices is BANNED. Use of all other fireworks is limited to paved areas or areas completely barren, and there MUST be a source of water readily accessible.
Fireworks for sale in the city are legal in the city. Fireworks sold in the County are not always legal in the city. Buy them where you plan to light them.
In the Town of Kirtland NM:
The sale and use of missile-type rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, stick-type rockets, and ground audible devices is BANNED. Use of all other fireworks is limited to paved areas or areas completely barren, and there MUST be a source of water readily accessible.

In the City of Farmington:
If you plan to light fireworks, here are some safety tips:
● Never allow young children to handle fireworks
● Older children should use them only under close adult supervision
● Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
● Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear
● Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands
● Never light them indoors
● Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material
● Never point or throw fireworks at another person
● Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting
● Never ignite devices in a container
● Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
● Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding
● Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire
● Never use illegal fireworks
Leave the shows to the pros:
We would prefer that you enjoy the Freedom Days fireworks show in Farmington at dusk on July 3, the Freedom Days Parade in Downtown Farmington on July 4, and the Bloomfield Fireworks on July 5.
