Law Enforcement is searching for an inmate who escaped from a minimum security treatment facility in Farmington

Farmington, NM-- On Sunday, July 5, around 2:00 in the afternoon, an inmate of the San Juan County Alternative Sentencing Division’s  DWI residential treatment program jumped the fence of a recreation yard and escaped. Detention officers immediately dispatched law enforcement to search for the detainee. 

The inmate is Mataius Alijah Oros, a 20-year-old Native American male, standing 6’ tall, weighing 165 pounds, with a mustache. His mugshot is attached. He was last seen eastbound, on foot, in the area of Airport and Municipal in Farmington. He was wearing orange pants and a white t-shirt, and may have removed his shirt or pants.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Oros is asked to call 911 or non-emergency dispatch at 505-334-6622.

Oros was sentenced for DWI charges in May and was awaiting trial for charges including breaking and entering and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle in June. 

He is not considered dangerous and has no known adult history of violent charges. 

When Oros is brought back to custody, he will be facing additional 4th degree felony charges. 

Oros escaped during Sunday afternoon church services. He asked to go to the bathroom and never returned, immediately initiating a count and search of the facility. 

This is the first escape in the 31-year history of the jail-based treatment center.
