SJC_ BLUE_ BEVELED_ LOGO

San Juan County adopted this logo on January 6, 2009, to provide a consistent identifier for the County and to replace the numerous existing logos in the various departments. The design creates a progressive look with a cutting-edge mindset and identifies San Juan county and all its services with a marketable and readable name.

The logo prominently features the name of our County as well as New Mexico’s distinctive insignia, the Zia Sun Symbol. The Zia symbol originated with the Indians of Zia Pueblo and has been used for generations. Its design reflects Zia’s tribal philosophy, with its wealth of pantheistic spiritualism teaching the basic harmony of all things in the universe.

Centered in the Zia Sun is the silhouette of Shiprock, or in the Navajo language (Diné Bizaad) Tsé Bitʼaʼí, "rock with wings" or "winged rock," located in the Northwest corner of San Juan County. The pinnacle is sacred to the Diné (Navajo People), being a main character in cultural folklore.

The logo also features a river that symbolizes the county’s sustainable agriculture and American Indian moniker of “Totah,” the Navajo meaning is “three waters” as the San Juan, La Plata, and Animas rivers run through San Juan County.
