The Risk Management Department provides all elements of risk management services for all elected officials and department heads. San Juan County is one of the few counties in New Mexico which has an experienced and qualified Risk Management Department.
The Risk Management Department’s vision and objective are to be the most competent public entities Risk Management Department in the state of New Mexico, and will continue to strive for improvement in every aspect of risk management. The risk management personnel will continue cooperating with other departments to assure all personnel that our efforts are in the best interests of the county, its employees, and the public.
Our responsibilities are Property / Casualty Liability Insurance Workers' Compensation.
|Risk Management Accomplishments:
- Determined that the value of real property was accurate and that property insurance coverages were adequate. An independent appraisal of all real property was conducted for that purpose.
- Settled liability claims which fell below our insurance deductibles. Coordinated with the legal department and outside legal counsel in the investigation, evaluation, and settlement negotiations. Also, assisted with pre-trial preparation. Cooperated with the legal department in monitoring the status of cases in litigation.
- Investigated all motor vehicle accidents, and other incidents or accidents in a timely fashion, including responding to accidents or incidents which occurred after normal business hours, on holidays, and weekends.
- Investigated and administered all workers’ compensation claims presented by county employees. This includes payment of weekly indemnity benefits, medical expenses, and review of necessary medical treatment.
